Document File Types

File Types – Three types of documents are tracked by the AccuBuild Document Management System: Document Files, Image Files, and AccuBuild Notes.  Each document is assigned a unique Record ID in the Document Master List table (DmMaster.adt).

Document Files

These files are identified by a record type of '1' and include any type of file, document, program etc.  Basically, any file that can be displayed within the Microsoft© Windows Explorer can be managed by the AccuBuild System as a Document File.  All Document Files are copied from their source location and filed under the AccuBuild naming convention and folder system.  The original source documents will not be changed, and all future references to the document from AccuBuild will be based on the AccuBuild copy of the document and not the original document.

Image Files

These files are identified by a record type of '2' and include any files or documents that were scanned or opened using any of the AccuBuild Scanning Options including scanning a document or opening an existing image document from within an AccuBuild Document Image Screen.  Documents that are scanned will be marked and saved as TIF Files.  Files that are opened from within a scanning screen will be saved in the native file format and may include the following type: PNG, GIF, PCX, TGA, EPS, JPEG, PCD, DXF, BMP, TIFF, & WMF. Important Note: All Image Files can be viewed within the AccuBuild System provided their associated file types have been enabled in the Document Properties.  If you do NOT want the AccuBuild System to handle certain file types, then disable the check box in the Document Properties Screen.  All image files that are not handled by the AccuBuild System will be opened by the default application for that file type according to the user's desktop settings.  All image files are copied and filed under the AccuBuild naming convention, and if these files are opened from another location, the original documents will remain untouched.

Note: The integrated scanning engine in the AccuBuild System will be used to view all enabled image file types.  The scanning engine was designed by SkyLine Tools, a Division of Creative Development LTD.

AccuBuild Notes

The third type of document tracked in the AccuBuild System is a note record and is identified by a record type of '3'.  A note record is an internal memo file where you can write an unlimited amount of text which is then stored internally in the AccuBuild database.  This is the only type of document that will have no external file path reference or file name.  The notes are stored inside the BinaryFileContents field of the DmMaster.adt table.
