Importing Paradox Tables

Top Previous Next

When converting company data from the BDE Version of Accubuild to the Enterprise Version, be sure to complete each step of the following outline to insure that all transactions, as well as the company property settings, are imported correctly:

1.

Backup the data in the AccuBuild BDE Version from the File Menu.  The backup process will produce a new copy of the globebak.db table which will be required in order to include the company global settings with the import data.  The import process will fail if this file cannot be found.

2.

Create a new folder on your hard drive to hold the temporary import data when the Paradox tables are converted to Advantage Tables in the next step.  This folder must be performed at the workstation or the server that has the Borland Database Engine installed on it.

3.

Launch the Advantage Data Architect (ARC) Program to import the Paradox Tables into Advantage Tables.  (The ARC program may need to be installed at the workstation.) Select the Import Option from the Tools Menu and follow the steps below to import the company data:

3a.

Select Import Type – Choose the Paradox Option and click the Next Button.

3b.

Select Import Data – Locate your company data folder containing the Paradox Data from AccuBuild BDE Version and select any file from the folder.  Once the file is displayed in the Import File Name field, change the file name to '*.DB' so that all of the paradox tables will be imported.  For example: C:\AccuBld7\JoesConstructionCO\*.DB. Click the Next Button to continue.

3c.

Select Destination – Locate the new folder that was created in Step 2 to hold the temporary import data.  This folder will hold the ADT Tables that are created from the Paradox tables during the import process.  Click the Next Button to continue.

3d.

Import Data – Click the Import Button to start the process of importing the data. When the import is complete, be sure to click on the Print Button to print a copy of the import progress information and file the report for future reference if necessary.  Close the ARC Program when finished.

4.

Load the AccuBuild Enterprise Program and create a new company using the New Company Option from the File Menu if a company does not already exist.  The program will shut down after the new company tables have been created. Note: This option will take longer than the BDE Version to set up the new tables.

5.

Load the AccuBuild Enterprise Program again and open the new company.

6.

Choose the Import Converted Paradox Files Option from the File | System Administrator Menu to copy the temporary Advantage Tables created by the ARC Program into the new company.  (If the Import Converted Paradox Files Option does not appear on the menu, then reset the toolbar by clicking on the DownArrow ResetToolbar icon on the Main Menu to refresh the screen).  Use the Find Button to locate the Paradox Import Data Location where the temporary tables were created and press the OK Button to begin copying the records into the new company.  When the process is completed, press the Print Button to print the progress report of the import routine and file with the report produced above by the ARC Utility.

7.        The company data is now ready for processing under the AccuBuild Enterprise Version.
